Light Echoes

Light Echoes is a limited edition of hand cut glass vases inspired by the reflection of light and color in a physical context. These ethereal pieces come to life according to the environment in which they are placed. They seek to echo the light and darkness in the space throughout its transparent and translucent glass surfaces.

Starting from a set of drawings, the designer marked the transitions of the facets directly onto the hand blown glass pieces at the workshop. Each design is hand cut by a Glass Cut Master with more than 30 years of experience, at Marinha Grande, a city in Portugal known for glass production since the 18th century. The convex facets then go into a manual process related with the desired finishing. These explorations on light reflections were inspired by the works of Dutch designer and colour researcher ‘Hella Jonguerious’, through her ‘Breathing colour’ exhibition.

The result is a special series of handcrafted curved pieces sculpted manually throughout its surface, creating transitions between colour and light, depending on the complexity of its surroundings. All the pieces are mouth blown into a wood mold and then carefully finished through cold techniques, where charming small imperfections are part of the artisanal process.
